Are you the shy type?

Shyness is something that troubles most people at some time in their lives, but some people have a real problem because they can feel shy in nearly every social situation that they come across.

So here’s just one tip on how to cure shyness based on author Trevor Johnson’s own personal experience of growing up so shy that he even felt stressed speaking to members of his own family.

You really need to gain some confidence in a few situations. Find something that you know that you can cope with doing. It may be buying something at the shop, learning to feel comfortable talking to a family member, or giving eye contact to a stranger. Whatever it is, make sure that you start with something that doesn't take you too far out of your comfort zone.  Start with something really simply and smile at strangers you meet in the street and give them eye contact. This means that if the person doesn't respond it doesn't matter as you won't see them again. After a while you could move on to saying 'hello' or 'good day' as well and you’ll probably be surprised by the amount of people who will respond to you in a positive way.

This may seem like a small thing, but as you build up your experiences and keep pushing yourself in different situations you will get more confident and more at ease in a wider range of social experiences and feel more relaxed.

You might just surprise yourself at how easy it can become.
