For many of us, setting goals is something like
this: “I'm going shed off a certain amount of weight by a certain time” or “I'm
going to make so much money within six months”. The time this is most likely to
happen is at the turn of the new year when we make those things called 'resolutions'. After about three to four weeks the interest
is lost and goes onto the back burner and in no time the goals are forgotten altogether.
You can make this year different. But just simply
saying that you want to accomplish something isn't enough unless you really do something
about it because otherwise you’re just going to go back to the same old routine
The first thing you need to do is be totally clear
about what you want or which way you want to go. You will need to know precisely what you want
and when you want to do it. You must be completely committed to your goal no
matter what stands in the way.
Secondly, make sure that you have a written plan.
You must write it all down. With a written plan you will know where you should be every minute of every
day. I can't begin to tell you how important that is. If you make a step by
step plan for every day and every hour of your day, your productivity will
increase by leaps and bounds. What it's all about in the end is to be more
productive. When you’re more productive you free up all kinds of time to do
other things. But then you must stick to it until it becomes second nature to
you.
Thirdly, you must be accountable for what you do, so
here is what you must do. Tell someone about what your plans are; perhaps your
spouse or a friend. Try to be completely
honest about your plans because that is likely to make sure that you will remain
accountable. It’s important to be accountable
because then there is no excuse to give up.
The fastest way to make your attempts fail is if
you take all the fun out of it. No matter what you do you must make what you do
fun. Keep yourself around others that are happy and who have a positive
attitude.
Often, people give up on their dreams because they
get stuck on what to do next. Don't be that person; you have all sorts of
support you can call on. There is plenty of information available that will
help keep you on track.
